Question: Is the National Health Service safe in Alan Johnsons' , Secretary of State for Health hands
The British Government advertised extensively to Britons advising them to take out health insurance before travelling abroad. The same Government does not make it a requirement for visitors to the UK to have health insurance. British courts have ruled that a person suffering from a life threatening disease, once in this country, cannot be deported to their country of origin if the treatment there is less efficient than that in Britain. There is no legal requirement for employers recruiting overseas to ensure their recruits and their dependants are in possession of a clean bill of health. The Chancellor of the Exchequer indicated that the latest increases in National Insurance Contributions would ensure Britain had a better health service? clearly he believes there is a link between contribution and quality.

Who is Healthwatch (UK)
Healthwatch (UK) is independent of all political parties and organisations connected with the National Health Service.
Our mission is to bring the debate into the public forum so that the British Public can make an informed decision as to how the NHS is to continue as a viable health service.
When Nye Bevan gave birth to the National Health Service in 1948 global mobility was not a prospect. Today people find it cheaper to jet into the UK to have their medical treatment free courtesy of Britains 'inter' National Health Service.

Why has Healthwatch (UK) been formed
Healthwatch (UK) has been formed to open a debate so that the British Public can decide whether they wish the present system to continue and, if so, how to fund and staff it, or whether they would like to return to a primarily National Health Service with a linkage between entitlement and access.
We welcome your comments wharever they are, or first hand knowledge of non-entitled persons making use of the National Health Service.
Healthwatch (UK) is a non political, non commercial organisation.
